It certainly took a while for a hip TV drama about God to hit the airwaves. However way it has happend, it is here. Joan of Arcadia is a coming-of-age story of a young girl's adventures in life ever since the day she met The Almighty. With every curious task God asks her to carry out, Joan Girardi learns something deeper about the purpose of her existence.

As a teenager, Joan is not alone in her struggles in life. Every member of her family has his or her own personal battles. Kevin, Joan's older brother and a former star athlete, is learning to readjust to life after losing the use of his legs in an auto accident. The Girardi father, Will, is a highly ranked police officer trying to balance his by-the-rules toughness and a tender, caring heart.

Besides her friends and classmates, Joan regularly sees two other family members in her school. Her younger brother Luke is going through some equally rough times trying to survive as a science nerd, and their mother Helen teaches in the same high school.

Don't miss the next episode of Joan of Arcadia, which will air on Friday, January 14th at 8pm on CBS.

Good news! Tripod removed a lot of the ads and now the site is significantly sped up. So for now, I will stop thinking about moving to a new host. However, the format of this site will change soon. As you know, any normal working adult has very little time to write that much on episode summaries. I don't know what fueled me with the energy to keep the fingers moving that much on the keyboard, but I think I should spend most of the energy on something else. Therefore, I decided to trim it down and bring it back in a more succint way. This is better for the reader too, I believe. After all, who would want to read a summary of an episode instead of just watching it? Stay tuned.

Could it be that JoA is getting better again? I tend to think that the producers saved the best episodes to the end of the season. I will watch the season finale with objectivity, but I can't say guarantee finishing the episode reviews anytime soon. Not until my finals are over, at least.

As of today, May 18, 2005, we learned the news that "Joan of Arcadia" has been cancelled by CBS, along with Barbara Hall's other brainchild, "Judging Amy", and the Wednesday edition of "60 Minutes". I am sure the network agrees with me that the quality of the storylines has been on a steady plunge up until the finale, but there could have been great possibilities with JoA, even though it has been slumping. It's just like seeing a major leaguer having gone through a sophomore slump; let them play on! Don't cut them from the team just yet!

The Girardis: Luke, Will, Joan, Helen, and Kevin. They kind of remind me of a great poker hand.
